Water sample analysis
for Irrigation purposes
Water is one of the main components in the process of crop production. Most of the growers opt for ground water source by digging bore wells and harvest the water required for irrigation. Since water is a Natural body, comes with its own chemical properties which sometimes turn out to be deleterious for crops as well as soil or medium that supports the crop. Also, it is important for the grower to know the quality of the irrigation water while using the source of water to make nutrient or plant protective chemical solution. Any deviation in the quality of water used may not serve the purpose. Hence intermittently water analysis is advised.
Irrigation water sampling

Sampling tools : Clean plastic or glass bottles (1000 mL)

Procedure
1. Care should be taken while collecting the representative water sample. The minimum quantity is 500mL of water.
2. Several portions of sample collected at different intervals should be mixed for ensuring a representative sample.
3. Switch on the motor, let the water to flow for 15 minutes and then collect the representative sample in clean plastic or glass bottle.
4. Water samples from bore wells need to be collected at the outlet, after allowing for free run for few minutes.
5. Water samples from stream must be collected at the mid-stream of the flow.
In general, the time between collection and analysis of the sample should be short so as to ensure reliable analytical data. Longer time intervals result in chemical and biological activity that may alter the composition of the water sample
